French President Emmanuel Macron has openly criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reminding him that Israel was established by a United Nations decision. During a cabinet meeting on October 15, Macron emphasized that now is not the time for Israel to disregard UN decisions, referencing the 1947 UN General Assembly resolution that led to the creation of Israel. This statement came amid heightened tensions between Israel and Lebanon, with Hezbollah's involvement raising concerns of a broader conflict.

The French president's remarks also align with his recent call to halt arms deliveries to Israel, which has further strained relations between the two leaders. Macron has condemned Israeli attacks on UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, which include French personnel, while reiterating the need for Israel to respect UN Security Council Resolution 1701. This resolution mandates that only the Lebanese army and the UN peacekeeping mission, UNIFIL, should be present in southern Lebanon, an area where Israel’s military actions have been a point of contention.

Netanyahu sharply rebuked Macron's comments, highlighting the ongoing diplomatic friction between the two nations as France pushes for de-escalation and adherence to international agreements
